Ordinarily in my August article I would report on attending the VFW Auxiliary National Convention, but as we all know, these are not ordinary times. However, I did watch the one day “mini convention” that was held in Kansas City on July 24, 2020. It was inspiring to see how National managed to take care of business, masks and all. Sandy Onstwedder is now our National President and the new National Guard is Lois Callahan from Arkansas. The year will be starting the way the last one ended, with all of us finding new ways to carry out our mission to help our veterans amid the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 virus.

I hope you are all protecting yourselves by wearing masks when you are out and by maintaining social distancing. It may seem like an inconvenience, but it would be a lot more inconvenient for you if you did catch the virus, so let’s all be patient and do our best to get through this.

I am now looking forward to our Training Academies, which are on August 8, 15 and 29 this year. I will have my mask and a big smile because I will be so happy to see everyone! We can do this – all it takes is flexibility and cooperation. See you there!
