I hope you are all well, happy and working your programs, even as you get ready to spend time with your families at Thanksgiving. This month I want to remind you about two things – Health & Happiness donations and Veteran’s Day. In addition, I want to remind you about MAP grants – if you are planning to do something for your local adopted Unit for Christmas, start working on your MAP grant now! The Military Assistance Program helps provide financial assistance to VFW Post and Auxiliaries to sponsor troop send-offs, homecomings and get-togethers. Posts and Auxiliaries participating in Adopt-A-Unit and Family Readiness Groups can also receive assistance. If you aren’t sure how to go about it, call the VFW Military Assistance Program office at 816-756-3390 or email the MAP office at email@example.com. If you need an application, call me and I will get one to you.
Health & Happiness: This program helps support the VFW National Home for Children. Each year we ask Auxiliaries to donate a minimum of $.10 per member, or more if you are able. Has your Treasurer sent your donation in yet? If not, I ask that you do so soon and be sure to earmark the donation for Health & Happiness. If you can do more, that would be wonderful! It would also be great to see more donations coming in for the National Home’s Christmas Store – Christmas is just around the corner!
Veteran’s Day: Have you planned an event to honor your local veterans on this very important holiday? Whether you plan a meal, a parade or something as simple as a Buddy Poppy distribution, make sure to say thank you to veterans for their service and for the freedoms they enable us to enjoy. If you haven’t held your Family Freedom Festival yet, this would be a great day to do it. Especially since November is also Military Family Month. Invite all your local veterans and their family members to participate. And don’t forget any Units you may have adopted. This is a great opportunity to do something for them as well.
Above all, as you and your families count your blessings this Thanksgiving, don’t forget about our military and veteran families. We would not have the freedom to celebrate Thanksgiving if it wasn’t for them!
